HC Deb 23 July 1942 vol 382 cc184-5W
Sir T. Moore

asked the Minister of Health (1) whether, in view of the return of children to London following the closing of schools in reception areas for the summer holidays, he will now consider making evacuation compulsory;

(2) whether he has any plans in view to enforce the return of children after the summer holidays from London, where their homes are, to the reception areas where the schools have been provided for them?

Mr. E. Brown

The arguments against any general policy of compulsory evacuation were fully explained by my predecessor in the Debate in this House on 13th June, 1940. Subsequent developments have not, in the view of the Government, invalidated those arguments, and it remains their considered opinion that compulsory evacuation would be justified only in cases of military necessity.
