Mr. Shinwell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many persons resident in the British Embassy in, Egypt are of Italian birth; whether any letters passing between persons in the Embassy and Italy are subject to censorship; and whether the M.I. Department of the War Office have made representations to the Foreign Office on this matter?

No person resident in the British Embassy in Egypt is of pure Italian birth. Correspondence between a British subject and persons in Italy is forbidden except through authorised channels where it is subject to censorship. The answer to the last part of the Question is in the negative.
