asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, having established the principle of varying prices and dates for strawberry crops in different districts, he will include the North-West district of Kent in the Area II scheme?

No, Sir, the conditions determining strawberry prices in Area II are not comparable with those in North-West Kent.

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what are the maximum retail prices determined for strawberries for this year?

Mr. Mabane

The maximum retail prices for strawberries this year are as followArea I. On or before 21st June, 1942–2s. 3d. per lb. net. On and after 22nd June, 1942—is. 2d. per lb. net. Area 11. On or before 28th June, 1942–2s. 10d. per lb. net. (From 29th June, 1942, to 6th July, 1942 (both dates inclusive))—2s. 3d. per lb. net. On and after 7th July, 1942–1s. 2½d. per lb. net.

In the above table:

Area I includes any area in the United Kingdom other than an area included in Area II.

Area II includes Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Counties of Northumberland, Cumberland, Durham and Westmorland, and the following areas in the County of Lancaster, namely, the rural district of Ulverston, the urban districts of Ulverston, Dalton-in-Furness and Grange and the county borough of Barrow-in-Furness.
