HC Deb 21 January 1942 vol 377 cc362-3W
Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food if he is aware of the continued unsatisfactory state of milk distribution in Scotland and of the failure of the Ministry's officers to co-operate with the Milk Marketing Board; and what steps are to be taken to improve the position?

Major Lloyd George

I am aware that milk production in Scotland continues to be below the average for the season and that supplies are not at present sufficient to provide for non-priority consumers on the basis of two pints per head per week, although considerable quantities of milk are being obtained from Northern Ireland. Some milk has also been sent to Scotland from England, when circumstances have permitted. The available supplies are being spread as equitably as possible and my latest information is that consumers generally are more satisfied on this point. I am certainly not aware of any lack of co-operation between the Ministry's Officers and the Milk Marketing Boards. Perhaps the hon. Member would communicate further with me on this point.
