HC Deb 18 February 1942 vol 377 cc1810-1W
Miss Cazalet

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he will consider the desirability of arranging for certain British Restaurants to serve evening meals in addition to midday meals?

Major Lloyd George

Evening meals have been served for a considerable time in some British Restaurants but the demand for such meals at the majority of restaurants is, at present, small. Local authorities have already been urged to serve evening meals wherever they appear to be required.

Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he will arrange for the exclusive supply of natural wheatmeal bread in British Restaurants under his jurisdiction, as the Home Office and the Ministry of Health have taken this action in institutions under their control?

Major Lloyd George

Local authorities have been asked to provide wheatmeal bread at British Restaurants. It is being supplied at the majority and exclusively at some. My Noble Friend sees no reason to go further than this at the present time. As regards the last part of my hon. Friend's Question, I shall be obliged if he will furnish me with particulars of the institutions to which he refers.
