HC Deb 12 February 1942 vol 377 cc1591-2W
Mr. Simmonds

asked the Minister of Labour what steps are being taken to train in new occupations men discharged from His Majesty's Forces who are unable, by reason of their war service, to follow their previous trades, but whose physical disability is not extensive; and whether he is aware of the need for flexibility in classifying these men when they are applying to employment exchanges for work?

Mr. Bevin

Under the scheme launched last October vocational training is available to men discharged from His Majesty's Forces whose disability does not prevent their employment in industry. I would refer also to the reply I gave on 22nd January to the hon. Member for Rotherham (Mr. Dobbie). Every effort is made by employment exchanger to give applicants under this scheme individual care and consideration. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a descriptive leaflet on this scheme.
