HC Deb 11 February 1942 vol 377 cc1537-8W
Mr. Purbrick

asked the Secretary of State for War whether in our retreat from Benghazi and Derna we have adopted the scorched earth policy by destroying the towns, aerodromes, harbours, roads and water supplies?

Captain Margesson

In so far as circumstances permitted, all stores, buildings, works and installations, which might have been of value to the enemy, were destroyed or removed before our recent withdrawal from Benghazi and Derna.
