HC Deb 11 February 1942 vol 377 c1537W
Mr. Wootton-Davies

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in respect of his recommendations to farmers that they should rub castor oil into the outside face of all cotton and leather driving belts, he has consulted the glycerine interests as to the use of this particular commodity, since castor oil contains glycerine and is of great value to other forms of national activity?

Mr. T. Williams

No, Sir. My right hon. Friend has not thought it necessary to consult the glycerine interests because the amount of castor oil used in the dressing of cotton and leather driving belts on farms is very small. He considers that such use of castor oil is fully justified because it is certainly an economy that belts should be preserved for as long use as possible.
