HC Deb 11 February 1942 vol 377 c1541W
Dr. Morgan

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the release from prison last month in the Colony of Barbados of Ulric Grant, a trade union organiser, convicted in 1937 for sedition, was the result of a free pardon granted by the King, or a remission of sentence; and whether it is now proposed to consider the grant of compensation to this man for his unnecessary imprisonment?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

Grant was released as the result of a remission of sentence. No question of compensation arises.
