HC Deb 03 February 1942 vol 377 c1074W
Mr. W. Joseph Stewart

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that sub-postmasters in the provinces are refusing to accept telegrams for the London area from members of His Majesty's forces and the general public unless they can give the number of the postal district in which the person resides to whom it is addressed; and will he have the matter inquired into as the present system is causing a great deal of inconvenience to people residing in the provinces and outside the London area?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

In present circumstances it is more than ever desirable that the addresses of telegrams for London should include the postal district initials and number. Telegrams from which these particulars have been omitted are liable to sustain delay, but should not be refused; and if the hon. Member will furnish particulars of cases in which they have been refused, I will have special attention drawn to the matter at the offices concerned.
