HC Deb 03 February 1942 vol 377 c1064W
Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he has now given further consideration to the cases of wives of officers whose husbands refuse to make any provision for them from their pay or allowances; and whether he is aware that the remedy of applying to a civil court is of no value as the War Office refuse to supply information either as to the husband's address or his pay, both of which are necessary?

Captain Margesson

The question is being examined, but it is a difficult and complicated one, and may take some time before a decision can be reached. In the meantime in such cases the wife may apply to the civil courts for redress. If she is unaware of her husband's address the War Office will always furnish it on receipt of an assurance from a solicitor or other responsible person that it will be used solely for the purpose of serving legal process. Pay details will always be given to a court after service of a subpoena.
