HC Deb 03 February 1942 vol 377 c1064W
Mr. Simmonds

asked the Secretary of State for War whether Auxiliary Territorial Service Standing Orders provide that mechanised transport personnel shall not be called upon to drive vehicles for more than five hours continuously; and what are the minimum rest periods between driving?

Captain Margesson

Such orders as are necessary on this subject are a matter for local arrangements in the command concerned so as to suit local conditions. It would be impossible to lay down any hard and fast rules on the subject as the hours of driving and rest must depend to a large extent on military necessity.
