HC Deb 03 February 1942 vol 377 c1071W
Mr. Groves

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will inquire into the circumstances attending the fact that George A. Hume, 60, Vicarage Lane, Stratford, volunteered on his 18th birthday for flying duties, was passed as fit at his medical examination, and instructed to return to his civilian duties until sent for; that he was then dismissed by his employers, Messrs. Angus Watson and Company, Rood Lane, E.C.3; and whether action will be taken to ensure this lad obtains restitution?

Mr. Bevin

A claim for unemployment benefit has been made and the circumstances connected with this young man's dismissal are to be considered by a court of referees on Thursday, 5th February. It would not, therefore, be appropriate for me to comment on the matter at this stage, but I will write to my hon. Friend in due course.
