§ Sir E. Graham-Littleasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will inquire into the case, details of which have been furnished him, of a university graduate in medicine who has been called up for service as a private in the Army where his professional training would seem to be wasted?
§ Sir J. GriggI am unable to trace the receipt of details of the university graduate in medicine to whom my hon. Friend refers, but I will gladly investigate the case on receipt of those details.
§ Sir E. Graham-Littleasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will inquire into the case, details of which have been submitted to him, of an honours university graduate, a research scholar in physics, who is now employed as a private, notwithstanding protests from his teachers who are unable to replace him in the research work which he was doing at a university chemical laboratory when called up?
§ Sir J. GriggThe facts submitted by my hon. Friend have been investigated but I regret that a sufficiently strong case has not been made out for the release from the Army of the graduate in question. The scope of his employment in the Army is limited by the fact that he registered as a conscientious objector and has been posted for non-combatant service only.
