HC Deb 17 December 1942 vol 385 c2103W
Mr. Viant

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will give details of the cases notified as smallpox at Edinburgh; the age, sex, dates of vaccination or revaccination; date of appearance of smallpox rash; date of death or discharge from hospital; source of infection, if known; and the reason why smallpox cases were allowed in the institution from which the majority of the cases came?

Mr. Johnston

I regret that there has not been time before the Recess to prepare a statement of the particulars for which the hon. Member asks, but I will send him such a statement as soon as possible. As regards the last part of the Question, the institution referred to does not admit persons suffering from infectious diseases; the patients who were found to be suffering from smallpox, or suspected smallpox, while in the institution had been admitted for other (non-infectious) conditions.
