HC Deb 17 December 1942 vol 385 cc2116-7W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that the Advocates (Forensic Robes) Regulations exempting advocates who are Moslem sheiks from robing in court without making the like provision for advocates of the Hebrew persuasion, and the passport rules allowing Moslem women passports without requiring their photographs but making no such allowance to Hebrew sayes to whom photography is forbidden by the tenets of their faith, are both contrary to Section 15 of the Mandate for Palestine and the Order in Council, S.R. & O., No. 1282 of 1922, declaring that there shall be no discrimination between the inhabitants of the Holy Land on the ground of race or religion; and whether he will take steps to remove these occasions for discrimination?

Colonel Stanley

I am in communication with the High Commissioner for Palestine with regard to my hon. Friend's representations with regard to the Advocates (Forensic Robes) Regulations and the Passport Rules of Palestine, and I will communicate to him in due course the result of my inquiry.
