HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 cc1946-7W
Major Lyons

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he is aware of the fact that in certain towns in the North-Midland region late omnibuses are run for those having permits after the last ordinary services now operating; whether his attention has been called to the fact that where accommodation exists in such later transport admission is refused to soldiers in full kit proceeding home on short leave; and whether he will give instruction that any such soldiers should be allowed to travel in such transport if accommodation exists?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I am glad to be able to inform my hon. and gallant Friend that on December 10th the Regional Transport Commissioner issued instructions that, if there is room, servicemen with kit should be allowed to travel on late omnibuses provided for priority travellers.

Mr. Mort

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he will consider the granting of priority travelling facilities on local omnibus services to midwives on duty?

Mr. Noel-Baker

It is not always practicable to operate schemes of priority travel by omnibuses; but, where this can be done, consideration will certainly be given to midwives travelling on duty.
