HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 c1964W
Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that many men, coming from Home Guard duties, wish to attend political meetings and committees before going home to change, especially in the London suburbs; and whether the existing regulations on this subject will be relaxed to enable citizens to do this?

Mr. A. Henderson

I see no reason to alter the existing regulation which forbids officers and members of the Home Guard to attend political meetings and committees in uniform. In the event contemplated in the Question, the Home Guard concerned should apply for permission to leave parade early enough to allow him to change his clothes before attending the meeting, or, if that would not meet the case, for permission to change his day of Home Guard duty for the particular occasion.
