HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 cc1965-6W
Mr. Leach

asked the Attorney-General whether his attention has been called to a meeting of the Bradford City Council on 8th December, when a proposal of the Rating Committee to revert to the rating of owners of houses under £10 rateable value and the compounding system was defeated by 33 votes to 31; that three members who admitted having financial interests in the matter voted with the majority although the town clerk had advised the council of the effect of Section 76 of the Local Government Act, 1933, as to members of the council having a pecuniary interest; and whether he will refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecutions with a view to a prosecution being instituted?

The Solicitor-General

Without expressing any opinion as to whether the result of the investigation would justify proceedings I have asked the Director of Public Prosecutions to make inquiries.
