HC Deb 15 December 1942 vol 385 cc1787-8W
Mr. R. C. Morrison

asked the President of the Board of Trade why the special coupons necessary for the supply by traders of hand knitting wool in Service colours are now issued only to officers and warrant officers; and why the limited supplies were not spread over all branches of the Services?

Mr. Dalton

No special coupons have been issued for hand Knitting wool in Service colours. But officers, who are not issued with clothing, are given an annual ration of Service coupons to enable them to buy what they need. These coupons may be used for knitting wool in Service colours. Other ranks have their clothing issued to them and, therefore, are not given Service coupons; but knitting wool for comforts for other ranks can be obtained coupon-free by knitting parties working for the official Services comforts funds.
