HC Deb 08 December 1942 vol 385 c1438W
Mr. Hewlett

asked the Secretary of State for War to what extent the new arrangements modify the present regulations in which family allowances cease to children who five with a soldier's wife who has deserted him and cohabits with somebody else; and how many children at the present time are affected by the existing regulations?

Sir J. Grigg

The fact that the wife has deserted her husband and has ceased to draw family allowance will not in future bar the issue of children's allowance in respect of children living with her. Special precautions will be taken in such cases to ensure that the allowance is properly spent on the children. It is not possible, without extensive inquiries, to say how many children will be affected.
