§ Mr. PalingThe number of war service grants in payment is about 450,000; all, except about 40,000, being grants to wives and families. These have now to be re-assessed in the light of recent changes, including the increase in the rates of children's allowances. The net result will be to increase some grants, to reduce others, and to leave some unchanged; but it is impossible to say how many will fall into each category.
