HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1228W
Sir I. Albery

asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider revising the regulations concerning taximeter-cabs in such a way as to facilitate their joint use when convenient, with a view to effecting transport and economy whilst adding something to the earnings of the driver?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I have been asked to reply. Under the present law there is nothing to prevent any number of persons up to four arranging between themselves to share a taxicab and to divide the fare, provided the arrangement is not initiated by the driver or owner of the cab and provided that the journey is not made frequently or as a matter of routine.
