HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1225W
Major Kimball

asked the Home Secretary whether he will discontinue the use of Form A R-E in the case of British subjects staying at hotels, as the information supplied by British subjects on this form is merely a repetition of the information entered in the hotel register and these forms are simply filed by the hotel manager?

Mr. H. Morrison

The completion of part of form A R-E by British visitors to hotels, etc., is primarily designed to distinguish them from aliens, in respect of whom further requirements are imposed upon the hotel keeper as well as upon the alien. The hotel registers to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers are maintained by hotel keepers for their own purposes and are not required by the law. The question, however, whether improved arrangements can be made for the registration of visitors to hotels, etc., is at present under consideration in consultation with the hotel industry.
