HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 cc1206-7W
Mr. R. C. Morrison

asked the Secretary of State for War what compensation is paid to members of the Home Guard injured while on duty?

Mr. Sandys

The rates of disablement allowance payable to a member of the Home Guard disabled as a result of his service have recently been increased. I append detailed particulars of the revised rates.

Following are the particulars

During initial total incapacity (normal maximum six months), the revised weekly rates will be as follow:

If not in hospital. While in hospital.
s. d. s. d.
Single man 38 6 28 0
Man with wife 47 8 40 2
Man with wife and one child 54 9 47 3
Addition for each other child 5 5 5 5

If the man's actual loss of earnings-exceed the above, the payment may be brought up to the actual loss of earnings, subject to a maximum of £3 14s. a week. This addition may be made during the first 13 weeks of total incapacity, or eight weeks only if the man is not to return to Home Guard duty. If the man is still totally or partially disabled on the cessation of these awards, he receives an award at soldier's disability pension rates, without addition for rank.
