HC Deb 06 August 1942 vol 382 c1204W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the Winsford bacon factory, Cooperative Wholesale Society, is threatened with closure upon the 3rd August and, inasmuch as this factory had done some important research work and made a great success of new methods, details of which have been supplied to him, and, as the research station, Wye, University of London, is deeply interested in this work, will he suspend this closure and make inquiries into these circumstances?

Mr. Mabane

I have been asked to reply. I am aware that the bacon factory at Winsford has ceased bacon production. The primary purpose of concentration is to release labour and premises for other work of national importance. A substantial release has been secured by the cessation of production at this particular factory and I see no reason to alter the decision that has been taken.
