§ Captain Stricklandasked the Home Secretary whether any grant is made by the State to local authorities towards the cost of uniforms for members of their Civil Defence organisations; whether any grant is made towards supplying uniforms for members of similar industrial defence organisations which relieve part of the civic responsibility; and, if not, whether he will consider doing so?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonGrant under the Air Raid Precautions Act, 1937, is payable on the cost of uniforms provided for members of local authorities Civil Defence services, whether whole-time or part-time. In so far, therefore, as members of industrial Civil Defence organisations have separately enrolled with the local authority on a part time basis grant under the Act would be payable on uniforms provided for them by the local authority. As at present advised I do not think it would be practicable to go beyond this.
