HC Deb 11 September 1941 vol 374 c327W
Sir W. Everard

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the recent influx of 10,000 people calling themselves Jehovah's Witnesses into the City of Leicester for a week; and whether, in view of the offence given to the local inhabitants by the views of these people, the cases of breach of the peace likely to follow, and the disturbance to the transport and other services in this city unprepared to deal with holiday-makers in war-time, he will prohibit such gatherings in the future?

Mr. H. Morrison

I am prepared to use the powers conferred upon me by Defence Regulation 39E in any case in which I am satisfied that it is necessary to do so.
