HC Deb 11 September 1941 vol 374 cc334-5W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether, in view of the constant shortage of funds experienced by mothers of children who have evacuated themselves to Canada and the United States of America, he will endeavour to provide for them either to return for urgent work at home or to take up some appropriate job across the Atlantic, where there is also a great demand for labour?

Mr. Shakespeare

Arrangements already exist whereby exchange can be made available to enable British mothers, who have gone to Canada or the U.S.A. and wish to leave for a country within the sterling area, to meet the necessary transportation expenses. As regards the last part of the Question, this appears to be a matter for the Governments concerned.
