HC Deb 09 September 1941 vol 374 c42W
Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings what scope is given in connection with all new housing work to the views of experienced women?

Mr. Hicks

The only work of the nature of housing for which my Noble Friend is responsible is the erection of hostels and quarters for transferred workers, both married and single, and of temporary living accommodation in the neighbourhood of certain towns which are considered to be particularly liable to bombardment. The standards of accommodation have been worked out in consultation with the Departments concerned and the architects of my Ministry are in close touch with those Departments and with the National Service Hostels Corporation on the details of planning. Women are included among the departmental representatives and advisers who have taken part in these discussions and they in turn have had the benefit of advice from bodies such as the Y.M.C.A.
