HC Deb 09 September 1941 vol 374 c41W
Mr. Banfield

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the Throgmorton Street Stock Exchange is issuing licences to the public for the purpose of registering members of the public whose livelihood is derived solely or in part by remuneration received by introducing business in Government and other public securities to members of that institution; that the said Stock Exchange is obtaining revenue for such registration; under what statute this is done; and whether the Government are receiving part of such revenue?

Sir A. Duncan

I am informed that the Committee of the Stock Exchange, London, have instituted a system of registration for agents on payment of an annual registration fee and have prohibited their members from sharing commission except with agents duly registered. This has not been done under any statute and the Government receive no part of the fee.
