HC Deb 09 September 1941 vol 374 c46W
Captain Plugge

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether any investigation has yet been made into the actual cost of building ships; and whether he can give any comparison of present costs with pre-war costs?

Mr. Alexander

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on 17th June to the hon. Member for Middlesbrough East (Mr. A. Edwards) to a similar Question. The figure of 16 per cent, then quoted may also be taken as applying to the first quarter of 1941.
