HC Deb 21 October 1941 vol 374 cc1640-1W
Colonel Carver

asked the Minister of Agriculture the amount of feeding-stuffs per week per bird given to poultry keepers owning 12, 50, 60 and 100 birds, respectively; and whether there is strictly pro rata allocation according to the number of birds kept?

Mr. Hudson

With the exception of domestic poultry keepers owning from 1–12 birds, rations for poultry are calculated not on the basis of existing numbers of birds but on the numbers returned as having been kept before the war. Allowances at present are at the rate of 4½ ozs. per day in the summer months, and 3 ozs. per day in the winter months, for one-sixth of the total number of birds returned as being on the holding on 4th June, 1939. These allowances are further modified by a deduction representing the acreage of the holding. Domestic poultry keepers owning from 1–12 birds are rationed on the basis of their existing numbers and receive balancer meal at the rate of approximately 1 lb. per head per week.
