HC Deb 17 June 1941 vol 372 cc490-1W
Colonel Carver

asked the Minister of Supply whether, in view of his accentuated campaign for old paper salvage, he is aware of public dissatisfaction over the methods of collection, particularly by local authorities; and whether this can be improved?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

Directions to provide an efficient and regular service for the collection of waste paper have been issued to all local authorities with a population of over 10,000 and to urban district councils with a population of over 5,000, and the collection schemes of such local councils are under continuous supervision. There has been considerable improvement in the organisation of collections and steps are being taken to improve it still more. The public have been asked to report to the local councils any failure to collect material, and failing satisfaction to report to the Salvage Department of the Ministry of Supply.
