HC Deb 17 June 1941 vol 372 c491W
Mr. Naylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what are the duties and responsibilities in peace-time of military and naval attaches appointed to British embassies abroad and whether it is proposed to discontinue such appointments in the new arrangements being made in the diplomatic services?

Mr. Eden

It is the duty of a naval or military attachéto advise the head of the mission to whose staff he is attached upon such naval or military questions as may arise. It is also his duty to maintain touch with the navy or army of the country in which he is stationed. The answer to the last part of the Question is in the negative.
