HL Deb 05 August 1941 vol 119 cc1087-8WA
VISCOUNT CECIL OF CHELWOOD

asked His Majesty's Government whether they are aware that the telephone service in London continues in a very unsatisfactory condition; what is the cause of this and whether it will be soon put right.

LORD SNELL

The telephone service in London has suffered in past months as the result of air-raid damage, but these troubles have now been largely overcome and there has been a marked improvement in the quality of service. My right honourable friend the Postmaster-General considers that, having regard to the many unavoidable war-time difficulties including dilution of staff, the service being given at the present time is by no means unsatisfactory. If the noble Viscount has any specific cases of difficulty in mind, my right honourable friend will be glad to look into them.
