HC Deb 02 April 1941 vol 370 c1018W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that in semi-destroyed houses in which tenants have been killed, or from which, if injured, they have been removed to hospital, furniture, including carpets, is allowed by demolition workers to be heaped up with debris in the street; and whether he will try to find some way of salving the effects of the victims, so that when the injured recover they may recover as much of their belongings as possible?

Mr. Mabane

Local authorities have been asked to do all they can to assist householders to recover their private chattels and to protect them against further damage. Such assistance must, however, be subject to the primary tasks of saving life, succouring the homeless and removing the dead.
