HC Deb 02 April 1941 vol 370 cc1023-4W
Miss Rathbone

asked the Minister of Supply whether, in his consideration of the waste of paper, print and labour involved in the production and distribution of trade catalogues advertising consumption goods such as clothing, fancy articles and alcoholic beverages and as such catalogues can have no other object than to stimulate expenditure or to induce the customer to give preference to one retail establishment over another, he will devise measures to stop this waste in time to prevent the preparation of such catalogues for advertising the July sales?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

As the hon. Member for West Leyton (Mr. Sorensen) was informed on 26th March, proposals for the extension of existing restrictions on the use of paper for advertising are under consideration. The approach of the July sales will be borne in mind.
