HC Deb 19 March 1940 vol 358 cc1824-5W
Sir J. Leech

asked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that the war effort to extend exports is being impeded by the inability of traders to obtain prompt release of controlled raw materials; and will he satisfy himself, by tests, that all branches of all controls exercise their discretion promptly without waiting to grant priority hurriedly and at the last moment as the result of pressure or complaint?

Mr. Burgin

Every effort is made to help export trade, whenever circumstances permit, by releasing raw materials and by releasing them promptly. I am sure that co-operation between my Department, the Export Council of the Board of Trade, and the export groups in the industries affected is the best means of removing any avoidable difficulties that may arise.
