§ Mr. Butcherasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take steps whereby the money of citizens now lying with the joint stock banks on current account without interest or on deposit account at a low rate of interest may he placed at the disposal of the country without intermediate profit to the banks?
§ Sir K. WoodNo, Sir. Clearly the banks must be remunerated in some form for the services they render to their customers. I hope, however, that citizens in the position mentioned will themselves lend all they can to the Government.
