HC Deb 04 July 1940 vol 362 c1034W
Mr. Perkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that a large number of transport companies and evening newspapers have increased their charges from 1d. to 1½d., he will reconsider his refusal to mint a 1½d. coin?

Sir K. Wood

I regret that this proposal is not practicable, as the process of minting and distributing a new coin in sufficient numbers to permit its free use is a very large and lengthy operation.
