HC Deb 04 July 1940 vol 362 c1020W
Mrs. Adamson

asked the President of the Board of Education how many nursery centres have been set up under Circular 1495; and, in view of the fact that the circular recognises the need for day-time occupation and adequate care for the children under five years of age who are, or may be evacuated, what further action is contemplated to implement this scheme?

Mr. Ramsbotham

The position was stated in my reply of 27th June to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Kilmarnock (Mr. Lindsay), a copy of which I am sending the hon. Member. The number of children under five years of age remaining from the original evacuation or sent out in the recent evacuations is comparatively small, but His Majesty's Inspectors have been asked to endeavour to secure either the establishment of nursery centres, where the number of children in a particular district is sufficient, or the admission of the children to the infants' departments of public elementary schools.
