§ Mr. Bateyasked the Minister of Supply the reason for not removing the iron rails around the private squares in the Bloomsbury district?
§ Mr. Harold MacmillanIn the case of many squares there are restrictive covenants or trust deeds and the assent of a number of interested parties, and in some cases legal action, would be necesary before the railings could be removed. The University of London have released the railings round Torrington Square. Consideration is being given to the use of more expeditious methods of acquisition.
§ Mr. Grovesasked the Minister of Supply whether he is aware that the new premises of the Milk Marketing Board at Thames Ditton include the provision of decorative iron railings 400 feet long and 3 feet high; and whether the salvage controller has approved of this?
§ Mr. Harold MacmillanMy right hon. Friend has now made inquiries into this matter and he finds that the material for these railings was purchased and they were already being made, before the war.
