HC Deb 04 July 1940 vol 362 c1014W
Mr. Ralph Etherton

asked the Secretary of State for War whether adequate instructions have been issued in regard to the ringing of church bells as a warning that enemy parachutists have been sighted; from whom, in local areas, the instruction will issue to those in control of church bells to have them rung; and what arrangements have been made to have persons available competent to ring the bells?

Mr. Law

Adequate arrangements have been made, but it would be contrary to the public interest to disclose any details.
