HC Deb 04 July 1940 vol 362 c1015W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that evacuees are still being billeted in restricted areas; what arrangements have been made to allow relations to see them; and whether they can be moved to other areas?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I presume that the Question refers to the defence areas which have been proclaimed under Regulation 16 (a) of the Defence Regulations. The considerations which lead to an area being made a defence area do not necessarily make it unsuitable for the dispersal of children within it. I understand that my right hon. Friend the Minister of Home Security has arranged with the chief constables and regional commissioners that parents may visit their evacuated children in defence areas, though organised parties by road are not encouraged.
