Mr. Whiteleyasked the Home Secretary whether it is the intention of his Department to make arrangements for a reduction of hours during night duty of auxiliary firemen whose present hours are 15?
§ Sir J. AndersonWhole-time members of the Auxiliary Fire Service are required to be on duty for a minimum of 72 hours a week, the arrangement of the actual periods of duty being a matter for the local authority concerned. In some districts the periods of duty have been so arranged that there are alternating periods of 15 hours and 9 hours daily. Facilities for sleeping are provided, and I see no reason to raise objection to this procedure where it best suits local conditions.
