HC Deb 21 February 1940 vol 357 c1375W
Mr. E. Smith

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he has conducted an investigation into the statement forwarded to him by the hon. Member for Stoke, dealing with conditions in the camp, His Majesty's Ship "Royal Arthur"; with what results; and can he make a statement on the matter?

Mr. Churchill

A thorough examination into the conditions existing in His Majesty's Ship "Royal Arthur" has recently been made. It must, of course, be understood that the rigours of this winter have been extreme and have necessarily inflicted discomfort on very large numbers serving in camp or billets. Everything possible has been done to improve these conditions.
