HC Deb 06 February 1940 vol 357 c53W
Mr. Temple Morris

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that people would welcome a lead from those in authority as to the direction in which they should allocate their expenditure, he will reconsider his decision not to guide the community as to what are non-essential purchases?

Sir J. Simon

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer which I have to-day given to the hon. Member for East Birkenhead (Mr. White).
