HC Deb 06 February 1940 vol 357 c45W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Health in what proportion of cases parents are paying the full recovery charge of 6s. per week or more towards the upkeep of their evacuated children?

Mr. Elliot

This information is not available, and I do not feel justified in asking local authorities generally to undertake the analysis of their records which would be necessary to obtain it. An analysis has been made, however, at my request in London and Middlesex.

The position in London on 29th January was that out of 93,753 "parent" cases comprising approximately 150,000 children, 37.3 per cent. of the parents were paying the full charge of 6s. or more. The position in Middlesex was that out of 22,665 "parent" cases comprising approximately 36,000 children 41.1 per cent. of the parents assessed were paying the full charge of 6s. or more.
