Mr. Rostron Duckworthasked the Minister of Agriculture what is the present approximate number of goats maintained in the country; and what steps are being taken to popularise the keeping of goats at the present time in order to increase available milk supplies?
Mr. HudsonNo recent statistics of the present number of goats maintained in1148W this country are available. There are probably about 50,000. The evidence before my Department shows that the demand for goats at the present time exceeds the supply. It would, therefore, appear to be unnecessary to take further steps to increase the demand.
